In the space of a short 12 months the Voortrekker Corridor has become another successful example of an emerging vibrant business district in Cape Town.
In July 2012 Derek Bock was appointed the COO of the Voortrekker Road CID (VRCID), having previously filled the same role at the Central City Improvement District (CCID) until 2007. The initial focus was to improving public safety, cleanliness and urban management. These top-up services were launched in August 2012 and in just 12 months the change is remarkable.
The article below appeared in the Cape Argus, Monday 26 August 2013, testimony to the benefit of the City’s progressive model for local urban management. Special Rating Areas (as the CID’s are now known) are a public-private partnership between the City of Cape Town and local communities. The model makes provision for a district, suburb or community to take charge of its public space with a local hands-on approach.
Kalk Bay and St. James are in the process of establishing a Special Rating Area (SRA). A majority of 60% in favour is required for the Kalk Bay St. James SRA to be formed. Please get in touch with us if you would like to support the initiative.
